Gorilla trekking is a guided hike through Rwanda’s forests, such as Volcanoes National Park, to observe mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. It’s an incredible opportunity to see these endangered animals up close.
All gorilla trekking in Rwanda happens in Volcanoes National Park, located in the northwest part of the country. It’s home to several gorilla families that can be visited by tourists.
Gorilla trekking is available year-round, but the dry seasons (June to September and December to February) are often recommended for easier hiking conditions
Yes, a permit is required to trek and visit the gorillas. The Rwanda Development Board issues these permits, and they currently cost $1,500 per person for a single trek.
