Rwanda gorilla overview
Rwanda, known as the “Land of a Thousand Hills,” is one of the best places in the world to see mountain gorillas. Volcanoes National Park, located in the Virunga Mountains, is home to these endangered animals. Trekking through the forest to see them in their natural habitat is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for nature lovers, wildlife enthusiasts, and adventure seekers.
Volcanoes National Park is only a 2.5-hour drive from Kigali, making it the most accessible gorilla trekking location in Africa
Rwanda’s strict conservation rules ensure a safe and ethical trekking experience.
The park has 12 gorilla families that are used to humans, giving visitors a good chance of seeing them up close.
The misty mountains and green forests make the trek an unforgettable adventure
You can also experience Rwanda’s traditions, including the Kwita Izina Gorilla Naming Ceremony
Part of the permit fees goes to schools, healthcare, and conservation programs for nearby communities
For international visitors.
For African foreign residents and citizens

Rainy Season (More Challenging, Fewer Tourists)
March to May & October to November – Fewer crowds and beautiful green scenery, but the trails can be muddy and slippery.
