The best time to Visit Rwanda for Gorilla Trekking

Best Time to Trek (Dry Season)

You can go gorilla trekking all year, but the best time is during the dry seasons:

June to September – The most popular time with great weather.

December to February – Another dry period with good trekking conditions.
Rainy Season (More Challenging, Fewer Tourists)

March to May & October to November – Fewer crowds and beautiful green scenery, but the trails can be muddy and slippery.

What to Expect on a Gorilla Trek

An epic 4-6 hours of magic

  1. Early Morning Check-In – Arrive at Kinigi Park Headquarters by 7 AM for a briefing and to join a trekking group.
  2. Guided Trek – A ranger leads a small group of eight people through the forest to find the gorillas.
  3. Hike Length – Treks can take 30 minutes to 4 hours, depending on where the gorillas are.
  4. Close Gorilla Encounter – Spend one special hour observing these gentle giants.
  5. End of Trek – Return to base and receive a certificate to mark your experience.
