Day 1 Transfer to the Masai Mara national reserve

Our Kenyan agent will be there to greet you and collect you from the airport as soon as you touch down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi on the first day of your five-day Masai Mara wildlife safari and cultural trip. On the way to the Masai Mara National Reserve, which is around 5-6 hours' drive from Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, you will be briefed by our guide. As you arrive, you will be greeted by the breathtaking flora of the park, which is home to numerous types of wildlife that are sure to attract your eye. This makes it an enchanting location in Kenya.

The best way to make the most of your time in the Masai Mara is to go to your lodge as soon as possible, eat a late lunch if you get there in time, and then spend the rest of the day driving about the area. Get back to the lodge before dinner and spend the night there.

Day 2 - 3 Full day game drive in Masai Mara national reserve

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before setting out on your game drive as early as possible to fully explore the Masai Mara wildlife safari and cultural tour. This will allow you to spot nocturnal mammals and hunters before they hide before sunrise, making the most of your game drive adventure.

Early risers can see a wide variety of animals, including leopards, lions, serval cats, cheetahs, hyenas, and many more. Keep driving into Masai Mara to see a wide variety of grazing animals, including buffalo, elephants, hippos, zebras, wildebeests, elands, impalas, gazelles, and countless more.

During the game drive, keep an eye out for the big five, and don't miss out on any of the other amazing sights that the Masai Mara National Reserve has to offer.

Although most people like to bring their own lunch and some even go back to the lodge for a hot lunch at lunch, the best approach is to have a picnic while you are  out among the animals and environment.

Day 4 Take a hot air balloon ride and a cultural workshop with Masai elders

Start your five-day Masai Mara wildlife safari and cultural tour on the right foot by waking up bright and early on day four. Upon meeting your safari driver, you'll be transferred to a sunrise hot air balloon ride. As you wait to board, you'll get a chance to see the balloon being inflated. From a treetop vantage point, you'll be able to see animals that sleep during the night coming out of hiding, as well as grazing mammals that enjoy the morning grass and the melodies of birdsong. What makes this Sunrise hot air balloon the most exciting is that, in addition to the usual fare, you get a bottle of Champaign and a bush breakfast when you land. You will go on a game drive after your bush breakfast and then return to the lodge for lunch in the afternoon.

Cultural tour in the evening: Afterwards, you will go on a walk to see the local Masai people where you will be amazed by the way they live their lives as cattle keepers. Start your trip with milking and end it with a fascinating cultural performance of dance and drama. You'll also learn about native methods of storing milk. Just make sure you go back to the resort before dinner and get some sleep.

Day 5 Morning game drive and drive back to Nairobi for departures

Since today is the last day of your five-day Masai Mara safari and cultural tour, your itinerary for the morning game drive will be dictated by your flight time. After breakfast, it's time to check out of the lodge.

Bring your packed lunch since you will be going on a game drive to explore the park. Eventually, you will  exit the Masai Mara National Reserve and be taken back to Nairobi.

Gorilla Trekking FAQ
When is the best time to go?

The dry seasons (June to August and December to February) are most popular because the trails are less muddy and hiking conditions are more comfortable. That said, gorilla trekking happens year-round, and the wet seasons offer their own advantages like fewer crowds, lush green landscapes, and sometimes lower accommodation rates.

Gorilla Hub Tours complete packages include your gorilla permit, professional guide, park entrance fees, transportation to/from the trailhead, and pre-trek briefing. Most packages also include accommodation, meals, airport transfers, and additional activities. We’ll send you a detailed itinerary showing exactly what’s covered!

Here’s what you’re looking at: Uganda permits cost $700 per person, Rwanda permits are $1,500. Our complete 3-day packages start from $1,200 per person in Uganda and $2,200 in Rwanda, including accommodation and meals. Longer itineraries with multiple treks or additional activities range from $1,800-$4,500 per person depending on your preferences.

While you can buy permits independently, we strongly recommend our packages! We handle all the logistics – permit procurement, accommodation bookings, transportation, and local expertise. Plus, we often secure better rates than booking everything separately. Solo permit purchases risk availability issues and much higher individual costs.

Book NOW

if possible! Permits sell out 6-12 months in advance, especially for peak seasons (June-August, December-February).
