Visit Rwanda, often called the “Land of a Thousand Hills,” for an African wildlife safari and an adventure you won’t soon forget. Volcanoes National Park is home to active volcano Mount Bisoke, and one of its main draws is the opportunity to go on a trip with endangered mountain gorillas in their native environment.
Two of Rwanda’s most famous attractions—gorilla trekking and the Bisoke hike—are packed into an exciting two-day schedule.

Gorilla trekking is a guided hike through Rwanda’s forests, such as Volcanoes National Park, to observe mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. It’s an incredible opportunity to see these endangered animals up close.
All gorilla trekking in Rwanda happens in Volcanoes National Park, located in the northwest part of the country. It’s home to several gorilla families that can be visited by tourists.
Gorilla trekking is available year-round, but the dry seasons (June to September and December to February) are often recommended for easier hiking conditions
Yes, a permit is required to trek and visit the gorillas. The Rwanda Development Board issues these permits, and they currently cost $1,500 per person for a single trek.
